Switching from FamilyWall

Moving from FamilyWall to Luraio.

FamilyWall keeps one family circle's calendar, lists, messages and locations together. When your kids' week runs across more than one home, the calendar needs to know whose night it is. Here's how to bring your FamilyWall calendar over in about ten minutes.

Stay with FamilyWall if

Your kids live in one home and you use the whole package: messages, location sharing, meal planning and the family budget. Luraio doesn't do those.

Move to Luraio if

Your kids live across homes. Luraio lays out your year from the parenting plan, handles swaps and handoffs, and lets a partner, grandparents and sitters each see just their part, rather than everyone seeing everything.

Bring your calendar over

FamilyWall shares a calendar as a link rather than a file. Luraio brings in a file, so step 2 turns one into the other.

  1. Your calendar linkCopied from the app
  2. A .ics fileSaved from your browser
  3. LuraioYou pick what comes in
  1. Get your FamilyWall calendar link. In the app, open Calendar, tap the settings icon at the top right, choose your circle's calendar, then Generate iCal URL and copy it. On the website, it's under the arrow next to the calendar's name. FamilyWall's steps
  2. Turn the link into a file. On a computer, paste the link into your browser's address bar. Most browsers save it as a file ending in .ics. If yours shows a page of text instead, use File → Save Page As and give it a name ending in .ics.
  3. Bring it into Luraio. Choose the file and how far ahead to bring in. Luraio ticks the events that name your kids, so you only check them, then pick the kid for each and whether it's just for your home. Nothing comes in until you say so.
  4. Set up your schedule. Tell Luraio the pattern your kids live by, like every other weekend or a 2-2-3, and it lays out your year with holidays included.

Anyone with that link can see every event on the calendar. Once you have your file, FamilyWall lets you reset or turn off the link. FamilyWall's help

What stays in FamilyWall

Lists, recipes, the budget and documents. We couldn't find a way to export these in FamilyWall's help center. If you're leaving FamilyWall entirely, copy the lists you still use and download any documents and photos you uploaded.

Using both. Some families keep FamilyWall for the household and use Luraio for the kids' time across homes. That works fine.
